Grey paint, a wobbly back and one leg shorter than the others. Under all that was solid beech.
Three coats of paint came off with a gel stripper and a card scraper. A brass brush got the last of it out of the turned legs.
Every joint was loose. I knocked them apart with a rubber mallet, cleaned out the old glue and reassembled with hide glue so the next person can do the same.
The short leg got a small dowel and a new end cut. Then the chair sat on a flat board while I marked the other three to match.
Two coats of shellac and a paste wax. Beech yellows a little under shellac, which suits a kitchen.
